Although it was well over a year ago that Kim Kardashian announced her intention to divorce her husband of just 72 days, the couple still remains married today, and many are wondering why. The couple had a prenuptial agreement, they do not have any children together and they simply weren't married long enough for any additional issues to come about. So why is their divorce still not final?
It seems that the couple is to blame for their divorce delay, as is the case in many other family law cases. Kardashian wishes to have the marriage dissolved through a traditional divorce, but husband Kris Humphries has petitioned the court for an annulment instead. He claims that the marriage was procured through fraud, and that it should therefore be annulled. Kardashian has denied that the marriage was fraudulent.
It is because of that disagreement that the couple remains married today. Humphries' family law attorney has sought and received additional discovery time from the court, stating that he needs more time to collect and review documents from the companies that handle Kardashian's reality shows and other moneymaking ventures.
Now, it seems that the judge overseeing the case may be growing weary of the ongoing divorce drama, much like the rest of us. In a recent hearing, he told each party's divorce lawyer to return to court in February in order to set a trial date to finalize either the annulment or the divorce. If discovery is completed by that time, the ill-fated marriage could be over soon after.
